I live in Silver Lake and have been coming to Elysian Park for over forty years. It’s a wonderful park. I come every other day to feed the crows. I used to bring my dog, but he’s fourteen and too old to make the walk now.

Many years ago, I lived downtown and Elysian Park was the perfect place to run. In those days, I ran on the roads. More recently, I have loved to run on the trails and have done that while training for races. One year, I was the Director for the 5K and 10K Firecracker. I have run the 10K and going up that big hill is a great challenge. It is fantastic to have a location in the center of the city where you can see 360° views of LA.

I have worked in the park for eight years as a guard at the Police Academy. I see many people come through everyday for picnics, parties and weddings. We have many tourists who come to see the Rock Garden and the Academy arches that have been in many movies.

The stories I have heard are basically the same, a young girl was murdered in the park. If you drive through late at night you may catch a glimpse of her. It is said that she is in a long white gown, has long black hair and she seems to be wandering around. I personally am too scared to stick around to see if I see her.

Elysian Park is one of my favorite retreats in the city. I often walk a number of trails that wind through the area. It's quiet and secluded with unbelievable views. I’ve spotted a hawk, lots of squirrels and incredible trees. There are always lots of dogs and families on the weekend, having birthday parties and potlucks and playing kickball. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon unwinding.

We live in Echo Park and my parents have been coming to the park since before my brother and I were born. We come often to walk, pick up trash and collect things. My brother and I like to scare people by hiding up on the hills and jumping out. One time we were hiding and my Mom couldn’t find us for over an hour. She rode around with a park ranger looking for us. My brother once had a pirate party, I was there, but don’t remember, since I was still in my mother’s belly.

A few years ago, I photographed my friend’s wedding at the Grace Simmons Lodge. It is such a wonderful location tucked away in the woodsy park. There’s a Japanese garden with vivid blue running water that wraps around and reaches a small pond with a fountain. It’s a very serene and intimate place. It was a perfect spot for such a special day!
